Hansen Technologies wins contract with AGL

Thursday 26 April, 2007

Hansen Technologies Limited (HSN) announces that it has been successful in winning a contract with AGL to supply Hansen's HUB billing solution for their Queensland market entry. The contract is valued at $2.7 million and represents another significant win for Hansen in the competitive retail energy market.

AGL is one of Australia's leading integrated energy companies including retail and merchant energy businesses, power generation assets and an upstream gas portfolio. AGL has Australia's largest retail energy and dual fuel customer base, supplying around 4.1 million customer accounts.

The Hansen solution will deliver a Full Retail Contestable (FRC) compliant billing solution for AGL. Hansen has been supporting AGL since 1997.

For AGL, the solution will allow it to meet the strict conditions imposed by the Queensland government following the purchase of the electric (Power Direct Australia) and gas (Sungas) retail businesses. FRC will commence on 1 July 2007 for both electricity and gas customers, paving the way for 1.2 million customers in Queensland to choose a new electricity or gas supplier.

AGL has responded quickly to the Queensland requirements and assessed internal and external market capabilities, selecting Hansen and the HUB system as a hosted and facilities managed solution.

Andrew Hansen, managing director, Hansen Technologies said, "Hansen has extensive knowledge of the gas and power markets and the locally compliant HUB system is proven in multiple Australian power and gas jurisdictions. For leading gas and electricity providers like AGL, a seamless integration is vital in realising its vision for customer retention, new gains and dual fuel offerings, further enhancing the AGL brand value for their rapidly growing customer base. With HUB already supporting deregulating markets across the globe, Hansen is pleased to apply its more than 15 years in billing expertise to deliver an FRC compliant billing solution to AGL."
